Kenya: 5 Children in critical condition after school wall collapsed in Lugari

5 Marula  primary school pupils in Lugari Sub County were seriously injured after a classroom wall collapsed on them following strong winds in the area.

The school's head teacher, Shadrack Mukonyi said the incident occurred at around 1.40pm when strong winds pushed down a school wall that then fell on pupils who were resting outside the classroom.

Mukonyi said the injured included four Std eight pupils and  one student in class six.

Teachers and pupils pulled the students from the rubble and rushed them to Mautuma Sub District Hospital where they are currently admitted in critical condition.

The head teacher said he has already invited officials from the public health and sanitation to examine the rest of the walls in the classroom.

“We will definitely be forced to destroy the whole structure if the public health department advices us to do so,” he promised.         Mukonyi appealed to well wishers to assist the school to construct modern structures in order to prevent tragedies in future.
