Kenya: Bungoma murder suspect storms court with armed gang

More than fifteen armed youths who accompanied Henry Waswa on Monday, stormed Bungoma Law Courts with intent to threaten witnesses in a murder case have been arrested.

Police said. The were arrested by Flying Squad officers who recovered two pistols, and will be charged with the illegal possession of firearms

Waswa was released for trial before resident judge Abida Aroni, and re arrested, after his lawyer decried the violation of his rights.

Investigating officer Josephat Wambua however noted that he had defied orders to surrender his firearm license and that a warrant of arrest had been issued by the Magistrate's court.

Waswa allegedly shot and killed Technical University of Mombasa student Mitch Kibiti, who was the son of county chief public administration officer David Kibiti.

He had been released on bail after a protracted trial and had been ordered to surrender the gun which was allegedly used in the shooting.

Investigations showed that Waswa's license was acquired fraudulently and that he could not account for some bullets.
