Liu Xianfa said the act was "unacceptable" and would only escalate and complicate a situation that had already been quieted down.
"We strongly condemn such a violent act and have already made solemn representations to the Kenyan government, urging it to take all necessary measures to protect the legitimate rights as well as safety and property of Chinese nationals in Kenya," he said in a statement.
Xianfa said the act went against the Kenya’s traditions of affinity and tolerance and urged Kenyans against being incited to violence.
The restaurant’s management had expressed its apology and borne legal consequences for their wrong conduct. "We wish that our Kenyan brothers and sisters could stand firmly with and help the kind-hearted Chinese people, and rebuff any attempt by envious and wicked forces with hidden agendas to hurt the existing good relations between China and Kenya," he said.
The embassy cautioned all other Chinese business owners in the country saying they will be penalised if they enforce similar policies. More than 100 youth stole electronic items and beer from the Chinese Chongquing Restaurant in a protest against its 'no Africans after 5pm' policy on Friday.(Read it here).
