A woman and her lover after allegedly selling a 5 year old boy in order
to have enough money to travel around the world were arrested on charges of child trafficking. The police in Sri Lanka said.
According to the police investigation, the unidentified mother of Colombo, sold her son to an undercover police officer for $500.
Police were tipped off about the woman’s plans and arranged an undercover sting operation to catch her red handed.
Along with the unidentified mother, her lover and an agent were arrested for conspiracy, after being accused with helping her sell the child.
The police informant learned about the woman’s plans after she and her boyfriend stayed at a cottage, where they looked for potential buyers.
The child has been handed over to the custody of the Prajapathi Children’s Home.
