Kenya: Garissa attackers called a Kitale family before killing daughter

A family in Kitale yesterday said it received a call from the terrorists who attacked Garissa University College, informing them that they had killed their daughter.

“The caller said the Kenya Defence Forces has killed their children, women and the elderly in Somalia and the attack was a revenge mission,” Fred Musinai said. He said the attackers told him to inform President Uhuru Kenyatta to withdraw KDF from Somalia.

Musinai said his daughter had called earlier, informing him they were under attack and needed prayers. “She asked me to tell her mother to pray hard because they were under attack,” Musinai told the Star on the phone.

His 21 year old daughter was pursuing a degree in education.Musinai said at 7am yesterday, his daughter called saying she was still breathing.“The caller was using my daughter’s phone and at 1pm they called again and insisted I should pass the information to President Kenyatta,” he said.

Musinai asked to speak to his daughter but the attackers said she was dead.“She is already gone, you just pass the information to your President,” the caller said. Musinai said the caller spoke in Kiswahili with heavy Somali accent.

Last evening the family was making frantic efforts to confirm the whereabouts of their daughter.“It was so traumatizing for us as a family and we pray that God will liberate us from these terrorists,” he said. His wife Rose Nafula was in shock and could not speak.
