A Vigilanti has said that Five persons suspected to be members of two rival cult groups have so far been killed in a renewed cult clash that started on Sunday at Ughelli, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Confirming the incident to Vanguard, a senior member of the Ughelli Vigilante, nicknamed Bakassi, who spoke on anonymity, stated that the killings occurred at Osia, Omosivwe, Orobase, Pipeline, Adagharagba and Upper Agbarho Streets of Ughelli.
Recounting the incident that led to the death of one of the victims simply identified as Royal at his Omosivwe Street residence, the vigilante member said: “The late Royal died as a result of various degrees of life threatening injuries inflicted on him by the suspected cultists who butchered him with battle axe and matchet on him.”
He gave the names of other victims of the attacks as Ufuoma and Edafe. Meanwhile, a combined team of security agents made up of the army, police and local vigilante, have embarked on a hunt for the cultists with a promise that anyone arrested in connection with cult related activities would be dealt with appropriately.
Contacted, the Delta State Police Public Relation Officer, PPRO, DSP Celestina Kalu, who neither confirmed nor debunked the killings, said: “We do not have any information on the matter, but there was a reported case of a robbery attack that led to the death of an Okada rider at Williams Street off Ighwrekpokpo Road on Tuesday night.”
