The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the he Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Rivers state, Chief Ezebunwo
Nyesom Wike, the winner of Saturday’s
governorship election.
The result was announced at 4.13am on Monday, April 13, by the returning officer for the state and vice chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Faraday Osasere Oruwese at the INEC office in Port Harcourt, Leadership reports.
According to the declaration, Wike polled 1,029,102 votes, representing 87.77%, to emerge as winner.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the state, Dr. Dakuku Adol Peterside, came second with 124,896, while the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Prince Tonye Princewill, came third with 10,142 votes.
The PDP also won 25 seats in the state House of Assembly election, while the APC won one seat in Eleme Constituency in the results so far announced.
