It's been close to two years since Canadian hitmaker Avril Lavigne was diagnosed with Lyme disease in December 2013.
And on Monday, the 30-year-old songbird shared a health update with Good Morning America as she talked about her debilitating illness for the first time on-camera.
'This is my second shot at life,' she said with tears streaming down her face as she spoke with ABC's Jesse Palmer about her road to recovery.
'I'm about halfway through my treatment. I'm doing a lot better,' Avril revealed.
'Seeing a lot of progress.I'm just really grateful to know that I will make [a] 100 percent recovery.'
The Complicated hitmaker recognized she had Lyme disease in December 2012 and then publicly revealed the news of her ailment with People magazine in April.
Lyme disease is the debilitating bacterial infection that comes from a tick bite. Avril believes she was bit in spring 2014, when she became bedridden for five months in her native Ontario home.
'I literally became bedridden last October,' she explained about the frustrations of getting misdiagnosed by multiple health professionals.
'They would pull up their computer and be like, "Chronic fatigue syndrome." Or, "Why don't you try to get out of bed, Avril, and just go play the piano?" It's like, "Are you depressed?" This went on and off for a month.'
The Sk8ter Boi singer visited the 'top doctors' but it wasn't until two months into her symptoms that she suspected Lyme disease to be the result.
'I saw my doctor right away, got blood tests, got swabbed, and they didn't really know what was wrong with me,' she continued.
'I started going to other doctors and specifically telling them and asking, "I have Lyme disease. I know I do. Can you check me?" Then I finally figured out, "Find a Lyme specialist."
After eight months of searching for answers to her health scare, Avril finally found the right doctors.
'There is hope. Lyme disease does exist. And you can get better,' she confidently stated.
