Five construction workers injured as expatriate were attacked in Ogun

There was pandemonium in the Banku area of Ogun State, at the Warewa end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when gunmen attacked an expatriate and some construction workers on a site, robbed them and injured five persons before escaping.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the gunmen, who reportedly stormed the construction site on Tuesday, June 16, in five vehicles around 2pm, were no fewer than 20 persons.

The workers were said to have scampered for safety, as the gunmen beat some of them with axes and cutlasses.
They were said to have carted away money and injured workers who could not give them any valuable.
After leaving Banku, the gunmen reportedly went to a neighbouring area in Warewa, where the expatriate, whose name had yet to be known, was supervising a construction work, and robbed him.

The assailants were said to have fled the area when they learnt the police were closing in on them.
It was gathered that policemen from the Ibafo and Warewa stations, who later arrived at the scene, however, apprehended three of the gunmen.

One of the victims, a site supervisor, who identified himself only as Balogun, said he was forced into a car by the gunmen, who threatened to kill him if he did not “cooperate”.
Balogun added that he managed to escape from the gunmen at about evening time.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident. He added that the three suspects arrested by the police had been transferred to the state command headquarters in Abeokuta.
