An explosion at a gas station in Accra, the capital city of Ghana has killed no fewer than 78 persons on Wednesday.
According to report most of the deceased were those who sought refuge at the gas station following a heavy downpour that had submerged the town.
The incident which happened at about 10pm was caused by fire that gutted a nearby lorry terminal which later spread to the gas station and other buildings in the country’s capital.
While commenting on the incident, the city Mayor, Oko Vanderpuije said fire fighters were seen at the scene of the incident battling to bring the inferno under control while police and soldiers joined the emergency crew in rescuing those trapped in the wreckage.
It was gathered that the capital city was on Wednesday submerged in flood following several hours of heavy rainfall.
