It was gathered that the deceased had earlier been arrested, alongside another suspect, after he allegedly led members of his gang to rob a compound on "Wechie" Street where his mother resides, near the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST).
However, while he was being taken away by the police, he pulled a gun and shot at his mother before one of the policemen fired the shots that killed him.
The woman was immediately rushed to hospital for treatment, while the body of the suspected armed robber was taken away by the police.
