Alhaji Sule Lamido, and his two sons, Aminu and Mustapha, and other accused persons in the money laundering saga have been transferred from a Kano prison to an Abuja prison, where they will be remanded until the hearing of their bail application.
The former Jigawa State Governor, alongside his two sons, and one Abubakar Wada are standing
trial on a 28 counts of money laundering and misappropriation of
funds to the tune of N1.3bn.
The accused persons were last week Tuesday arrested in Abuja by
operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and
transferred to Kano where they were arraigned before a Federal High
Court on Thursday.
Jutice Evelyn Anyadike ordered Lamido, his two sons and other accused
persons to be reminded in Kano prison until September 28 after the
EFCC said it did not have the facilities to accommodate the accused
persons in Kano.
Lamido’s bail application, it was learnt, could be heard by a
vacation judge in Abuja, which may grant him the opportunity not
to spend the Sallah celebration in prison.
