A Nigerian teaching assistant who mentored troubled children and campaigned against knife crime has been stabbed to death while selling a laptop to a man he met on Gumtree. police said.
Michael Adegbite, 28, was killed after three teenagers tried to rob him during a meet-up he had arranged in order to hand over the computer.
Mr Adegbite, sold his MacBook using the listings website Gumtree and drove with a friend to hand over the laptop to the buyer.
At the meeting point, three young men apparently set upon him and attempted to steal the computer, but Mr Abegdite took it back and the robbers ran away.
The victim and his companion were joined by another friend and set off to try and find the youngsters but when they tracked them down a row broke out and Mr Abegdite was killed.
Three 18-year-old men have now been arrested in connection with the incident and are currently being questioned by police.The university graduate worked as a teaching assistant at Heathcote School in Chingford, and coached young footballers at Eastside United FC in Hackney.
