An 11 year old girl has been charged for the murder of a two month old baby by beating her to death.Zuri Whitehead died after suffering massive internal injuries to her brain, liver, spleen and kidney, police said.The girl had been left in the care of a babysitter at her home near Cleveland, Ohio, US on Friday.
When the babysitter fell asleep, her 11 year old daughter who cannot be named for legal reasons took the infant upstairs, a court heard.Some time later, the girl came downstairs and shook her mother awake saying something was wrong with the baby.
Zuri WhiteheadZuri was taken to hospital, but later died from her injuries.A coroner later determined the cause of death as homicide and the girl was charged with murder.She appeared in front of a juvenile court on Monday, wearing shackles around her feet.
The girl was asked if she understood the charges and replied yes.The judge ordered her to undergo a mental competency exam before she appears in court again.Police officers have been offered counselling as a result of dealing with such a traumatic case."We're trying to figure out what would motivate someone to do something like that," Wickliffe Police Chief Randy Ice told reporters."And so far, we haven't come up with an answer.
