Kenya: Carl Gary Singleton accused of girlfriend's murder

A British national  Carl Gary  Singleton 41 has been charged at a Nairobi court with the killing of his Kenyan girlfriend. He is alleged to have murdered 22 year old Peris Ashley Agumbi. He allegedly committed the offence on November 19 last year in Gachie, Kiambu County, Kenya.

The court freed the accused last December after an investigation officer told a court that there was no sufficient evidence to sustain a murder charge. However, the prosecution said it would still conduct an inquest into the death of the University of Nairobi student following a directive from the Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko.

According to police, Mr Singleton had been a suspect following an earlier report by Ms Agumbi, who was diabetic, that he had flushed her lifesaving medicine down the toilet. Ms Agumbi reportedly died in a hospital of diabetic hypertension and respiratory failure. The two had allegedly met online two years ago through Facebook and Mr Singleton had flown into the country from Britain 6 months ago on a tourist visa to spend time with her.
