A judge in Belfast, Ireland, has ruled that a Christian-run bakery discriminated against a gay customer by refusing to make a cake with a pro-gay marriage slogan.
The Christian-run bakery was said to have discriminated against the gay customer by refusing to make a cake with a slogan supporting same-sex marriage.
However, Ashers Baking Company, based in County Antrim, was taken to court by gay rights activist Gareth Lee.
The judge said, as a business, Ashers was not exempt from discrimination law.
The Northern Ireland Equality Commission has also welcomed the judgement.
Chief commissioner Michael Wardlow said the judgement was "very robust, very clear" and confirmed the law rather than clarifying it.
He said the ruling vindicates the reason for the Equality Commission to be in existence.
