#HappyNewYear: We’ll Cut Poverty To Barest Minimum In 2016 – Okorocha

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has in his new year's message declared that in 2016, government would focus on further reducing and winning the war against poverty in the state.

He stressed that concerted effort would continue to be made to ensure that in this New Year, the poverty rate of the state would further come down drastically until poverty is eradicated in the state or reduced to the barest minimum.

The governor recalled that in 2011 when he came into office, the World Bank and United Nations’ reports put the poverty level in the state at 57 percent, and by 2015, the reports of the same bodies released in June showed that the poverty rate of the state now is 19 percent, adding that the state is among the first five states with low poverty rate with Lagos State on top.

Okorocha stated that government was committed to creating wealth and prospering Imo people in the year ahead with its determination to industrialize and invest heavily in agriculture.
