Six people were killed as council bin lorry smashes into christmas shoppers in Glasgow city center.

Six people were killed  and eight others injured as council bin lorry smashes into Christmas  shoppers in Glasgow. Witnesses say the truck was out of control as it entered George Square and ploughed into pedestrians, reportedly including young children and a baby in a buggy, and cars before crashing next to the entrance of the Scottish city's Queen Street Station. More photos

The cause of the crash was not immediately clear, but police have said it was not a terrorism-related incident, and ‘nothing more sinister’ than a fatal traffic accident.
Shoppers said the lorry lost control as it drove along the busy street and moved at high speed across the square, knocking over bystanders before it came to a halt in the wall of the Millennium Hotel, next to an entrance to the bustling Queen Street Station.
The area was busy with shoppers and children heading to a Christmas funfair at
the time.

There were also unconfirmed reports that the driver, who survived the crash, might have suffered a heart attack at the wheel of the vehicle.
The Glasgow City bin lorry had been travelling north on the city's Queen Street at around 2.30pm when the driver appeared to lose control of the vehicle.culled
