Nigeria: Musiliu Obanikoro as minister is an act of impunity and corruption - APC

The Senate, Wednesday, okayed Senator Musiliu Obanikoro’s second coming as minister. Amidst opposition from All Progressives Congress, APC, Senators and few members of the Peoples Democratic Party.PDP who  stalled screening of the former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, for ministerial appointment last week.

The APC Senators had protested the inclusion of Obanikoro following his alleged role in the Ekiti election and had even insinuated that in some other climes, President Jonathan should have resigned. But today while the opposition staged a walkout, the Senators followed the tradition of the Senate where a former Senator would be asked to take a bow and leave without being asked questions.

Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has described the confirmation of Mr. Musliu Obanikoro as a Minister by the Senate despite damaging implications in a rigging scandal in Ekiti State, “as an act of impunity and corruption as well as show of shame that further muddles the image of Nigeria and the senate.”

It will be recalled that APC lawmakers had objected Obanikoro’s nomination over his alleged involvement in the rigging plot of Saturday, June 21, 2014 (recorded on tape) of the Ekiti State Governorship election, which brought the incumbent Mr. Ayodele Fayose into office after he was declared winner of the poll. He equally was said to be involved in a suit against him over dual citizenship. President Goodluck Jonathan, subsequently, declared that the audiotape was fabricated, hence, no need for its investigation.
