Nigeria:Delta State Accountant General Absconds Due To Pressure From Uduaghan


The Accountant General (AG) for Delta State, Mr. Cyril Chuma Agbele, has absconded his post and fled to an unknown destination. This news comes just as the Delta State Governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan, ends is tenure there.

According to a government house source, that Agbele, who absconded Tuesday morning, claims he was no longer comfortable with the way and manner  the  outgoing Governor, Emmnuel Uduaghan has been demanding funds from the AG.


Some members of Governor’s team are accusing the Delta State Governor-Elect, Ifanyi Okowa, of being behind the disappearance of Mr. Agbele, according to a source.

“This drama of the disappearance of the State AG is not a surprise to my boss, Uduaghan, because the Governor is aware of the game being played by Cyril. 

We know that it is [Governor-Elect] Okowa and his cohorts are those behind all this drama. Cyril Chuma Agbele, is from Delta North with Okowa and we know its a grand plan Okowa is executing.” one of Uduaghan aide said.

It was  revealed that a Director in the Accountant General’s office, who requested anonymity, confirmed that the story disclosed that Mr. Agbele absconded his position following pressure from Governor Uduaghan to release millions of naira, only days before the end of the his term.


“[Mr. Agbele] decided to disappear from office and the public because the governor’s pressures on him for demands of funds was becoming too over unbearable. 

Our boss for fear of been implicated after the governor has left office on Friday, he decided to go into hiding. Mr. Agbele has taken off and switched off his mobile line,” this source said.


An impeccable government source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, disclosed to SaharaReporters that, “As I talk to you all top civil servants in the state and majority of the government officials have turned against outgoing Uduaghan and have now pledged their loyalty to [incoming Governor-Elect] Okowa, and this is just human beings for you.


 We are aware that Governor Uduaghan in the past few days have been on the neck of the Accountant General.”

At the time of writing SaharaReporters was unable to contact Mr. Agbele. Governor Uduaghan’s office was also unavailable to answer SaharaReporters inquiries.
