An Abeokuta Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded a 29-year-old man, Morufu Sofoluwe, in prison custody for allegedly raping a nine-year-old girl who happens to be his neighbour’s daughter.Sofoluwe was alleged to have infected the poor child with HIV.
The Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Egbejule, told the court that the offence was committed sometimes in July at Isale-Abetu in Abeokuta, Ogun State.According to Eigbejiale, the accused person lured the victim, into his room and had carnal knowledge of her.“The nine-year-old girl, who had been sick for a while, was taken to the hospital on Aug. 28,where she was diagnosed with HIV.“After questioning, the victim later told her parents that the accused was the one that raped her. The accused had also been diagnosed of HIV,’’ the prosecutor said.
The offence contravene Section 218 of the Criminal Laws of Ogun, 2006.The court did not take the accused plea.The Chief Magistrate, Mr Anthony Araba, ordered that the accused be remanded in Oba Prison pending the advice by the Director of Public Prosecution.Araba adjourned the case till Oct. 30.
