Kenya: George Muchai murder suspects charged with Murder

The seven suspects linked to the killing of Kabete MP George Muchai were finally  charged with murder on Friday. They did not take pleas as six of them lacked legal representation.

They however denied ten counts of robbery with violence in a separate court appearance. The suspects faced the murder charges before Justice Jessie Lessit who postponed the plea date to March 19. Senior magistrate Enock Cherono who presided over the robbery with violence hearing set March 23 as the bail application date.



The male suspects were remanded to Industrial Area prison and the female to Lang'ata Women's Prison. The police had been given three days to finalise investigations into the murder failure to which the suspects would be granted bail. The suspects, who have been in custody for more than 21 days, were found with two firearms, including one reportedly used to shoot Muchai and his aides.

They include Margaret Njeri, Jane Wanjiku Kimani alias Chiro, Erick Muyera Isabwa alias chairman and Raphael Kimani Gachie alia Butcher.

 The others are Mustafa Kimani Anyonyi alias Musto, Stephen Astiva Lipopo alias Chokore and Simon Wambugu Gichamba. Muchai, his driver and two bodyguards were murdered on February 7 when attackers intercepted his car at Kenyatta Avenue roundabout, Nairobi and opened fire.
