Honour Killing: Parents Jailed For Life After Murdering Daughter For Having Sex

A Muslim mother and father who murdered their own daughter for bringing 'shame' on the family because she had sex with a man they did not approve of have been jailed for life in Germany.

The  'honour killing' of Lareeb Khan, 19, was carried out by her father Azadullah, 52, who crept into her bedroom at night and strangled her while her mother Shazia, 42, looked on.

China Jails Three Human Rights Activists

Amnesty International has called for the immediate and unconditional release of  three Chinese rights activists who were sentenced to jail by a court on Friday in Guangzhou in southern China.Guo Feixiong was jailed for six years while fellow activists Liu Yuandong, 37, and Sun Desheng, 32, were sentenced to three years and two-and-a-half years in prison, respectively.They were found guilty of “gathering a crowd to disrupt order in a public place”.

Ex-Gov Dakingari Quizzed For Alleged Fraud

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Monday interrogated a former Governor of Kebbi State, Alhaji Saidu Dakingari, for alleged corruption.A team of detectives from the Economic Governance Unit of the commission interrogated the former governor for alleged abuse of office, misappropriation of funds and money laundering-related offences.The commission was probing the former governor for offences he allegedly committed during his tenure as a two-term governor of Kebbi State from 2007 to 2015 a top operative of the commission said.

Woman Gets $1.6m For Being Wrongly Jailed For 10 Years In Australian

According to a media report in Sydney, a woman, who was found by a court to have been wrongly jailed for 10 years for attempting to kill her husband, was awarded 1.6 million dollars compensation. Roseanne Beckett was jailed in 1991 for allegedly trying to solicit others to kill her husband Barry Catt as well as trying to poison him.The report noted that Beckett became the state’s longest-serving female inmate, before she was released in 2001, and her case became a cause célèbre for advocates who saw a miscarriage of justice.

Zimbabwe Wants Justice For Lion Cecil

An American man have been accused by conservationist in Zimbabwe of being the alleged killer of Cecil, one of Africa’s most famous lions and the star attraction at the Hwange national park.On Tuesday, the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force said the man thought to have paid $50,000  for the chance to kill Cecil was not a Spaniard as originally believed, but US citizen Walter Palmer, from a small town near Minneapolis. The man left the lion skinned and headless on the outskirts of the park, the ZCTF’s Johnny Rodrigues said in a statement.
