Kenya: A South Sudanese child rape hearing postponed

Mr. Makoy Deer

One Mr. Makoy Deer a  South Sudan national who allegedly defiled a five year old girl will remain in custody until March 17. His bail hearing was postponed on Friday after his lawyer failed to report to a Makadara court. Deer, 30, allegedly committed the offense on March 3 at Embakasi, Nairobi, Kenya.

When he was charged with child rape on March 9, he was said to have summoned the  little girl using sign language,  A neighbour reportedly saw him and and urged the child to tell her parents, who notified the police.

Deer did not plead to the charge because he understands neither English nor Kiswahili. The prosecution requested an interpreter. The prosecution had asked the judge to deny Deer bond stating that he is a foreigner charged with a capital offense.
