The executive producer of the series which has been on air since 1989, Al Jean has revealed that the animated couple shall be splitting in the upcoming 27th season, set to begin this fall.
'It’s discovered after all the years Homer has narcolepsy - a chronic neurological disorder that affects the control of sleep, causing uncontrollable episodes of falling asleep, even during activities that demand attention - and it’s an incredible strain on the marriage,' he spilled.
However, the narcolepsy isn't the only thing to blame, as the EP shared that Homer has his eyes on another woman.
The new apple of Homer's eye will be one of the upcoming season's many guest stars, and is coming off of another guest stint, on popular ABC series Scandal.
'Homer and Marge legally separate, and Homer falls in love with his pharmacist, who’s voiced by Lena Dunham,' Al shared, adding: 'We’ll have cameos from the other women from Girls.' Previously, Homer had considered cheating on his longtime spouse in a season five episode titled The Last Temptation of Homer, which first aired in 1993.
