The police in Kwara State has arrested four members of a suspected kidnap gang that had been terrorising residents of Omu -Aran, the headquarters of Irepodun local government of the State.
There had been incidents of attempted kidnapping and threats to life in the area in the last couple of months.
The divisional police officer (DPO) of Omu-Aran Command, Mr. Adamu Zawa, who confirmed the arrest of the suspected kidnappers, said the Police Headquarters in Ilorin had been notified for further investigation.
A member of the gang, who is believed to be the ring leader, was said to be at large.
It was gathered that the suspects had on July 9 at about 9pm kidnapped the head of the Fulani clan in Ekiti local government area of Kwara State, Alhaji Aliyu Harrandle.
Harrandle was later freed by the suspects after the payment of an undisclosed amount of ransom.
There was a kidnap attempt on a renowned Islamic cleric and community leader in the area, Alhaji Isa Obalola, on July 4 while he was on his way to to the mosque for early morning prayers.
