Man Remanded In Prison For Setting Fire To A Woman’s Private Part

An Auchi Magistrates’ Court sitting in Edo on monday remanded in prison custody a 39-year-old man who was identified as Mustapha Mamud for allegedly touching a woman’s private part.In his ruling, the Magistrate, Mr M. O. Osayi, said Mamud should be remanded in prison pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP.

Mamud is being tried on a two-count charge bordering on attempted rape.When the charges were read, he however denied them.Earlier, the Sgt. Daniel Mato, the prosecuting officer told the court that Mamud had on the February 24 committed the offences at his apartment in Auchi.Mato said the defendant and the woman stayed together.
“The accused touched the private part of the woman in an attempt to have carnal knowledge of her,’’ the prosecutor said.According to Mato, the offences contravened Sections 3,594 and 3,609 of the Criminal Code, Laws of the defunct Bendel of 1976 as applicable in Edo.The Magisterate, M.O.Osayi adjourned the case till October 13 for further hearing.
