Johnson-Sirleaf Wants Chinese Investors To Bolster Liberia’s Economic Growth

Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, has said she is expecting more Chinese investors in the country to help local private sector grow and assist in Liberia’s post-Ebola economic plan.The Liberian president, said this in Monrovia when receiving a high-powered Chinese business delegation on Thursday.The delegation comprising both state-owned and private companies in China is Liberia to seek partnership with local Liberian businesses and explore investment opportunities in agriculture, infrastructure and energy.

Liberia declared Ebola-free after weeks of no cases

Liberia has been declared  Ebola free by the World Health Organization (WHO) confirming that the country has had no new cases in 42 days.

According to reports, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf said that  Liberia has  "crossed the Rubicon" and would be celebrating a concerted effort to stem the disease.

More than 4,700 deaths from Ebola have been recorded in Liberia, more than in any other affected country.

Neighbouring Guinea and Sierra Leone continue to fight the outbreak.It has claimed over 11,000 lives across the region since last year.

African leaders urge ‘Marshall Plan’ for Ebola recovery

The leaders of the west African countries worst hit by Ebola called for more aid to eradiate the disease and rebuild their shattered economies at an international conference in Brussels Tuesday.

Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Sierra Leone President Ernest Bai Koroma and Alpha Conde of Guinea urged the world to help their recovery as the number of new cases slows  More than 9,700 people have died of the disease since the west African epidemic emerged in southern Guinea in December 2013, with nearly 24,000 people infected, according to the World Health Organization.
