Sierra Leone records new cases of Ebola


New cases of Ebola have been recorded in Freetown, weeks after the city was thought o be free of the deadly disease.Health officials say there are fears of further infections as the cases occurred in a densely populated slum.
Sierra Leone's National Ebola Response Centre said there was great concern because all Ebola quarantine facilities in Freetown had been closed.

UK: Family of Sierra Leonean Father-of-two who died in police custody promise they 'will not rest until they have the truth'

The family of a man who died after being arrested demand to find out the circumstances behind his sudden death, saying they cannot grieve until they know 'the truth'.

Sheku Bayoh, 31, was detained by police after being accused of carrying a knife, but he lost consciousness while being restrained by nine officers.

Vice President of Sierra Leone sacked by President

Samuel Sam - Sumana the Vice President of Sierra Leone who was accused of creating his own rival political movement and fomenting violence in his home region of Kono, in diamond rich eastern Sierra Leone, has been sacked by President Ernest Bai Koroma for seeking asylum in a foreign embassy, a statement from the president's office said on Wednesday.

African leaders urge ‘Marshall Plan’ for Ebola recovery




The leaders of the west African countries worst hit by Ebola called for more aid to eradiate the disease and rebuild their shattered economies at an international conference in Brussels Tuesday.

Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Sierra Leone President Ernest Bai Koroma and Alpha Conde of Guinea urged the world to help their recovery as the number of new cases slows  More than 9,700 people have died of the disease since the west African epidemic emerged in southern Guinea in December 2013, with nearly 24,000 people infected, according to the World Health Organization.
