African leaders urge ‘Marshall Plan’ for Ebola recovery

The leaders of the west African countries worst hit by Ebola called for more aid to eradiate the disease and rebuild their shattered economies at an international conference in Brussels Tuesday.

Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Sierra Leone President Ernest Bai Koroma and Alpha Conde of Guinea urged the world to help their recovery as the number of new cases slows  More than 9,700 people have died of the disease since the west African epidemic emerged in southern Guinea in December 2013, with nearly 24,000 people infected, according to the World Health Organization.

Spain: Toxic orange cloud looms over 5 towns

Spanish authorities ordered the residents of five northeastern towns to stay indoors for some two hours Thursday after a chemical explosion at a warehouse spread a large, orange toxic cloud over the area.A spokeswoman for Catalonia’s regional firefighting department said the blast occurred when products being delivered to a warehouse in the city of Igualada became mixed, exploded and set a truck on fire.

Italy: Scientists discovered a gene that can swicth off tumors

A step forward  as been made thanks to an Italian research. A group of scientists at the Humanitas Rozzano (Milan) has discovered the ability of a particular gene, called PTX3, that is able to  "turn off"  cancer . The study, funded by the Italian Association for Cancer Research (AIRC), would open the way to the realization of a concrete cure.

Actor Muna Obiekwe Is Dead

The Nigerian film industry has suffered yet another loss as popular actor Muna Obiekwe has been reported dead after battling kidney failure.

Muna who was reported dead at about 4:15pm today was rushed to the hospital from his home in Lagos when signs of complications first occurred.

Ebola:Scotttish nurse contracted the Ebola virus

The Scottish nurse who contracted the Ebola virus in west Africa will be treated with an experimental anti-viral drug and blood plasma from a survivor of the disease, her doctor said.
Dr Michael Jacobs, who leads the team treating Pauline Cafferkey at the Royal Free hospital in London, said she was “as well as we could hope for” and was sitting up in an isolation tent and able to eat, read and talk.
