The disappearance of Makueni County Assembly Minority Leader John Mwenze, who went missing from his home in Kiunduani on Monday.is being investigatigated by the Police.
Mr Mwenze, who is also the Nguumo Ward representative, was elected on the Muungano Party and has been a close ally of Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana, who is also the party's leader.
The Makueni County government is on the verge of being dissolved due to incessant wrangles between Prof Kibwana and MCAs.
Makindu police chief Anreta Wanyama on Thursday said police received a report from his family that Mr Mwenze went missing on February 16.
Mr Wanyama said police were still investigating the case, and urged anyone who has information on his whereabouts to report to the nearest police station.
Mr Mwenze's wife, Josephine, on Friday said he arrived home on Monday at 11pm, packed his car, entered the house, placed his phone and car keys on the table and left the house.
He has not been seen since then.He disappeared on the same day the National Assembly welcomed views from the public on the suitability of members of a presidential commission of inquiry that will look into the possibility of dissolving the Makuni County government.
Mr Mwenze, she said, had been receiving threatening messages from his fellow assembly members.
His sister Joyce Mwenze urged the county government to help in searching for him and provide information about what happened to him as he was working for them.
“My brother was committed to work(ing) for the county government of Makueni and, therefore, they should be in the forefront in looking for him,” she said.
Makueni County Assembly Chief Whip Martin Mutuku asked police to find Mr Mwenze, dead or alive, as quickly as possible.
“We want police to tell us where the minority leader is,” he said.
Mr Mutuku said assembly members had recorded statements with police on the last time they saw him in the assembly last week.
