John Ashe, Former Head Of The UN General Assembly Charged With Corruption

U.S. prosecutors on Tuesday (October 6) accused John Ashe, former president of the United Nations General Assembly, of taking more than $1.3 million in bribes from Chinese businessmen to support their interests through UN-sponsored projects.Five other people, including a billionaire Macau real estate developer, were charged for engaging in the vast corruption scheme.

Incredible!!! Spacecraft flies by Pluto after a nine-year journey in space


New Horizons a NASA spacecraft which, after a 4.9 billion and 9 1/2-year long journey in space, flew by Pluto. It is the first time a human-made object has ever been that close to the dwarf planet.
The craft flew by the distant “dwarf” planet yesterday after reaching a region beyond Neptune called the Kuiper Belt, which was discovered in 1992. The achievement is the culmination of a 50-year effort to explore the solar system.

UNAIDS: HIV treatment targets met in advance


According to a report by the UN Aids agency, the Millennium Development goal of giving life-saving treatment to 15 million people by the end of this year was reached nine months ahead of schedule.

A few weeks ago neighbours of the 55-year-old labourer, Thepa Kharia, found his body in a pool of blood at his home in an isolated village 280 miles west of Calcutta.
His head had been hacked off by an occult group called the Orkas, who buried it in a parched ­farmer’s field in a bloody ritual meant to summon the rain and save their shrivelling crops from the heatwave that hit India killing 2,500 people.

#FIFAGate: Switzerland to formally extradite FIFA officials to the US


Switzerland  has been formally asked by the US to extradite seven FIFA officials arrested at the end of May in a corruption inquiry.
It is the first stage in what seems to be a long procedure of up to six months according to Swiss authorities as those being held had previously indicated that they would oppose extradition.

Suspicious activity on FIFA account - Swiss banks



Swiss banks have reported suspicious activity on the accounts of world football governing body, FIFA, Switzerland’s attorney general said on Wednesday.

Federal Prosecutor Michael Lauber said at a press conference in Zurich that banks had reported 53 possible cases of money laundering and his office was also analysing a “huge amount” (nine terabytes) of seized data.

According to report, Switzerland is currently investigating how FIFA came to award the World Cups of 2018 and 2022 to Russia and Qatar, respectively.

As the Fifa bribery and corruption saga unfolds, the Former Fifa vice president Jack Warner has in a  TV address that he will reveal all he knows about corruption at the world football body.

The indicted official, who said he feared for his life, also said he could link Fifa officials to general elections in his native Trinidad and Tobago in 2010.

Alps co-pilot ‘practised’ crash


Andreas Lubitz the co-pilot who is believed to have deliberately crashed a Germanwings jet in the French Alps may have “rehearsed” steering the plane into a rapid descent on an earlier flight, German daily Bild reported on Wednesday.

Quoting sources close to the French investigating authorities, the newspaper said that the co-pilot, 27-year-old Andreas Lubitz, appeared to have tried out a “controlled, minute-long descent for which there was no aeronautical reason” on the earlier outbound flight from Duesseldorf to Barcelona.

Zimbabweans living in Britain are reportedly set to stage a demonstration in London, demanding President Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF party government to step down.

The protest which coincides with Mugabe’s 91st birthday, will be held under the theme: "Stop Zimbabwe from falling off the cliff".

Somalia: 20 killed as Al Shabaab attacked politicians in hotel





Islamist rebels detonated a car bomb at the entrance of a hotel in the Somali capital on Friday and then stormed inside where politicians had gathered, killing at least 20 people.
Two other lawmakers were lightly wounded in the incident.

A couple caught having sex in a pub toilet were pepper sprayed by police when they refused to come out, a court heard on Wednesday.
Hayley McClory, 23, and Lee Hopps, 30, had to be dragged out of the cubicle in a state of undress after noises were heard coming from the ladies’ loos.
Officers who arrived at the pub had to resort to drastic measures to end their lovemaking, magistrates were told.
