South African Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius who was jailed for five years after being found guilty of the culpable homicide of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, will be released on parole 21st August,2015.
This is after a recommendation from South African's Correctional services department as revealed by the Commissioner for correctional services Zach Modise. Under South Africa law, Pistorius is eligible for release under "Correctional supervision" after serving a 6th of his sentence.
Appeal against his acquittal on murder charges is due in November.
Oscar Pistorius shot and killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamo on Valentines day through a locked bathroom door in his home in Pretoria, believing she was an intruder.
