Indonesia; Military plane crashes into hotel scores killed

An Indonesian military transport plane crashed shortly after take-off, exploding in flames in a  residential area  killing at least 43 people.

Large crowds and emergency services gathered around the flaming wreckage shortly after the crash in the city of Medan, on Sumatra island, with the fuselage of the aircraft visible among thick plumes of black smoke. Buildings in the vicinity of the crash zone were also clearly damaged.

Humanitarian crisis: 'Ten deaths' on stranded Myanmar migrant boat

Myanmar migrants on a boat stranded for a week in the Andaman Sea with no food or water say 10 people have died, while some are resorting to drinking urine.

The fishing boat, carrying about 350 people of the Muslim Rohingya minority, has been refused entry to Thailand.

Those on board said the crew abandoned them and disabled the engine. They said the bodies of those who had died were thrown overboard.

Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand have been turning away migrant boats.

Several thousand people are still believed to be stuck in boats off the coasts of Thailand and Malaysia.Most are Rohingya Muslims who cannot go back to Myanmar, also known as Burma, where they are not recognised as citizens of the country and are regularly persecuted.

Some of those who are adrift in the Andaman Sea have been provided with food, water and medicine by the Thai navy.

It is not clear how many other boats are in a similar predicament.Some boats containing migrants have been towed over to the Malaysian side of the border - where most migrants want to go - only to be taken back into Thai waters.

No-one wants them, the BBC's Jonathan Head says, and seeing them off the southern coast of Thailand, near Koh Lipe, that it is a "desperate sight" as they beg for food and water.

On one crowded vessel with a lot of women and children on board, our correspondent saw people drinking their own urine from bottles.

The migrants - including 50 women and 84 children - said they had been at sea for three months.

Their situation became critical when their crew abandoned them without a working engine six days ago anchored near the Thai-Malaysian border.

Phil Robertson, deputy director of Human Rights Watch's Asia division told the BBC: "They're [Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia] playing a game of marine ping-pong not wanting to take in the Rohingyas.

He said it was necessary for the three countries to work together in rescuing them before they decide who is going to take responsibility for them.

"This is an urgent humanitarian crisis and the Thais and others seem to be taking a gentle stroll."

The Nigerian Federal Goverment Demands Return Of Corpse Of 4 Nigerians Executed in Indonesia

The Nigerian Federal Government has asked for the return of the corpses of 4  her citizens executed in Indonesia following drug related offences yesterday April 28th.

In a statement released by the Public Communications Division of Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja,  the FG condemned their execution and condoled with their families. 

Indonesia 'executes eight prisoners' for drugs offences including three Nigerians

The convicted drug smugglers ( which includes three Nigerians) have been executed by firing squad in Indonesia,

The executions took place in Besi prison on the island of Nusakambangan early on Wednesday morning local time, local media reports say.

Indonesia: Photos of 3 Nigerians up for possible execution today

The 10 prisoners on death row in Indonesia for drug trafficking could be up for execution today (Tuesday).

On Saturday, the prisoners were given the mandatory 72-hour notice of execution in according with Indonesian law. 

Families of the condemned have since arrived the Nusakambangan Island, where the prison holding the condemned prisoners is located.

In the meantime, the Attorney-General's office has said the 9 will be executed simultaneously by firing squad.

One of the 10 condemned prisoners, French citizen, Serge Areski Atlaoui still has an outstanding legal complaint over his conviction and may be exempted from today's execution.

The others are Australians Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan, Mary Jane Fiesta Veloso from Philippines, Ghanaian Martin Anderson, Indonesian Zainal Abidin bin Mgs Mahmud Badarudin and Brazilian Rodrigo Gularte.

Australian trafficker marries before Indonesia execution

An Australian drug trafficker on death row , Andrew Chan, 31 married his girlfriend Monday on the Indonesian prison island where he is set to be executed soon, his brother said, urging the country’s president to show compassion to the newlyweds.

 Andrew Chan, married his Indonesian girlfriend Febyanti Herewila in a ceremony on Nusakambangan Island, home to several high-security prisons, his brother Michael said.

Indonesia: Another Nigerian sentenced to death for drug trafficking

A Nigerian, Simon Ezeaputa, has been sentenced to death in Indonesia for drug trafficking, local media report.

 It said the district court in Tangerang, near Jakarta, on Wednesday found Ezeaputa guilty of controlling a drug transaction from his prison cell, where he was serving a 20 year jail term for drug offences.
