Earth's Bigger, Older Cousin Discovered By NASA’s Kepler Mission

NASA's Kepler mission has confirmed the first near-Earth-size planet in the “habitable zone” around a sun-like star. This discovery and the introduction of 11 other new small habitable zone candidate planets mark another milestone in the journey to finding another “Earth.” 

Queen guitarist and astrophysicist Brian May is helping Pluto team examine data of New Horizons

 Rockstar Brian May may be better known for rocking out on tracks like “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Fat Bottomed Girls,” but the Queen guitarist was at NASA headquarters Friday to talk about a different kind of rock – Pluto.

May, who holds a PhD in astrophysics, was in attendance for NASA’s latest briefing on New Horizons’ historic flyby of Pluto, which took place earlier this week.

New Horizons a NASA spacecraft which, after a 4.9 billion and 9 1/2-year long journey in space, flew by Pluto. It is the first time a human-made object has ever been that close to the dwarf planet.

The craft flew by the distant “dwarf” planet yesterday after reaching a region beyond Neptune called the Kuiper Belt, which was discovered in 1992. The achievement is the culmination of a 50-year effort to explore the solar system.

A young Nigerian has won the 2015  Microsoft Youth Spark Challenge, contest which asked young people from around the world to submit an idea to address a social issue through technology in their communities.

Saviour Okusenogu from Lagos, Nigeria was among this year’s grand prize winners, representing youth from Chile, Ecuador, Greece, India, Nepal, Nigeria, United States, and Uruguay.
